We've been making batteries successfully since 1937.

Because we build on what matters. On reliability. On our employees. On quality that lasts. On thinking ahead rather than waiting to see what happens. In a world where mobility and energy are constantly changing, Banner is the reliable standard. An owner-managed company from the heart of Europe that has grown into a leading European brand.  Not by chance. But through consistency. We were developing technologies when others were still hesitating.

We’ve never forgotten what really matters: batteries that deliver on our promises. And so a family business became a brand that moves what needs to be moved, all over the world. With technology that thinks for itself. And with people who lead the way.

1937

Artur Bawart founds the company Banner in the town of Rankweil, Vorarlberg. The name is derived from the surnames Bawart and Wehinger – Eugen Wehinger is a mechanic and a business partner in the early years. What begins in a small workshop carries a clear promise right from the start: batteries you can rely on.

1959

Banner expands and relocates to Linz/Kleinmünchen in central Austria. A strategic move: closer to the key markets, closer to the customers who need our batteries.

1959

Establishment of the new site on Salzburger Strasse. A larger factory, modern equipment – more scope for growth in the coming decades.

1968

Banner produces the first dry-charged starter battery, making it one of the pioneers in Europe. A technology that makes all the difference: batteries that are ready to use straight away, with no preparation and no waiting time. A real step forward for garages.

1976

We develop the manufacturing technology for welded polypropylene batteries. The welded casing makes the batteries leak-tight and more durable. An innovation that sets new standards in terms of durability and reliability.

1979

New brand identity. The flag in the Banner logo gives way to a powerful symbol: the buffalo. It stands for starting power and longevity – for factors that have always set Banner batteries apart.

1980
Banner develops the first completely maintenance-free, lead-calcium-tin battery, thereby setting new standards as Europe’s first battery manufacturer.

A milestone that changes everyday life: no need to top up the water, no need for constant checking. Simply reliable energy, exactly when it’s needed.

1988

The maintenance-free Banner Uniturbo starter battery is launched on the market and solves a real problem: the wide variety of starter battery types.

A battery type suitable for all kinds of vehicles. This simplifies stock management for retailers and reduces waiting times for customers.

1994

Banner is awarded ISO 9001 certification by TÜV Produkt Service. Quality becomes measurable, processes become transparent.

A step that shows we mean what we promise.

1996

Andreas and Thomas Bawart take over management of the Banner Group. The second generation steps up – with respect for what has been built, and with a vision for what lies ahead.

2000

Recognition for on-time delivery and product quality of the highest standard: Audi AG presents Banner with the coveted 1999 Quality Award.

An award from one of the most demanding partners in the automotive industry.

2004

Banner comes out on top in the Stiftung Warentest test. The Power Bull 62 Ah takes first place – tested under the toughest conditions and assessed by independent experts.

2007

To increase capacity, reduce delivery times and improve availability, Banner invests around 7 million euros at its Linz site: a new logistics centre and a state-of-the-art AGM production facility.

2012

Another victory in the Stiftung Warentest and ADAC tests. The Banner Power Bull P72 09 is awarded the top rating of “very good” (1.4). Independently tested, objectively assessed.

2015

Daimler AG nominates Banner Batterien as one of the top three suppliers in the “Quality” category for the 2015 Daimler Supplier Award.

Confirmation and reward for our stance.

2017

Banner celebrates 80 years in business. Eight decades during which around 80 million batteries have been.

Two values have guided us throughout the years: consistency in the quality we deliver and a commitment to staying one step ahead in technology and service. They continue to shape us to this day.

2018

Banner introduces new technologies in the commercial vehicle sector – EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery) and high-current technology – and significantly expands its range of products for passenger cars.

Requirements increase, vehicles become more complex. We provide the right solutions.

2021

Energy for the future needs space. A new production site for the Energy Solutions business unit is opening in Thalheim near Wels.

Around 10 million euros are invested in modern facilities and infrastructure.

2025

Werner Töpfl becomes CEO, succeeding Andreas and Thomas Bawart – this marks the first time the company has been led by someone from outside the family.

New leadership takes responsibility for the past and shapes the future.

2026
