WHAT IS COASTING OR SAILING?

IN SIMPLE TERMS, THE FREE ROLLING OF THE LONG-DISTANCE LORRY.

More and more often, the HGV sector also converts kinetic energy into electrical energy during coasting, which is uses to charge the starter and on-board batteries.

How exactly does coasting or sailing work in a long-distance lorry?

The coasting assistant sensor tells the lorry driver when to take his foot off the accelerator before a junction or traffic light so that the lorry can roll along by itself and in doing so recharge the battery. The coasting assistant sensor works in conjunction with the navigation system and is automatically activated when setting a destination. In a certain speed range, the system then gives the driver a coasting recommendation by means of a symbol in the instrument panel and a discreet acoustic signal.

This saves fuel and reduces emissions.

The lorry then uses the energy that was previously stored by the battery. Our Buffalo Bull batteries are then real CO₂2and fuel savers!

Banner Batterien embraces coasting technology, with the most powerful starter and on-board batteries in the Buffalo Bull AGM series for long-haul lorries.
